El Hombre Perfecto
The actor talks about his role in the movie "The Ugly Truth" and of his life next to Roselyn Sánchez
[Loosely translated from Puerto Rican. Click here to read the orignal article.]
In the movie "The Ugly Truth," Eric Winter embodies the stereotype of the perfect man. "Colin" is a doctor, mature, precise, nice and good-looking - all the requirements to be become the future husband of the protagonist, the exacting publisher of television "Abby" (Katherine Heigl).
In real life, Eric is the ideal man for the Puerto Rican actress Roselyn Sánchez, with whom he married in November of 2008 and he longs to become a father. The actor spoke exclusively with "The New Day" of both experiences and he responded as if he is as perfect as they paint it, in and out of the large screen.Describe your character in "The Ugly Truth."
In the movie I am the neighbor of the protagonist and I possess all the things that she seeks in a man. So she will do everything that she believes is necessary to capture me.
What was it like working with Katherine Heigl?
We had a lot of fun. The first scene that we shot was of the moment in which we were a couple, so we had to pretend that that we were in love. We take it all to joke, to break the ice, and that made it all easier. We laugh a lot.
Are you naturally funny?
I am fortunate that people consider me a comedian. But I also want to do more drama.
You consider that this character will open more doors to the large screen?
Absolutely, this is a great step for me. The last movie that I shot was "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay" (2008), a comedy in which I did the role of the evil and the fool at the same time. This it is the most important movie than I have done up to now and projects me in a way positive.
Your resumé is extensive in television, but not thus in the movies. Has it been difficult to enter to that industry or you have not pursued too much that goal?
I focused on television, and when you are on a show you do not have the availability to do movies. It's been a couple of years since I've done a show, and that has given me the opportunity to bring to light more work in the movies. Right now I am focused in obtaining my next movie, because my goal is to continue expanding in this industry. But also I want to be selective. I resist television, but will have to try something that help me to prompt my career in the movies.
You studied Sicología,. How did you become an actor?
I was studying medicine in UCLA, but only by diversion I took some acting classes. I fell in the world of modeling, until I managed to do a very important campaign for Tommy Hilfiger. I was a model for six years and I travelled everywhere. That motivated me to continue studying acting, already with the commitment of doing the transition. And I carry eight years working as an actor. It's funny, because when I was in the school, I wanted to be a football player.
It turns out to be curious that, just like in the movie, Roselyn has described you as the perfect man.
[Laughs] Roselyn is incredible and very kind to say that.
Although she confessed that she is the bigger problem in the relationship and that you are the one that keeps the peace...
Truly? Fantastic! In reality I am "easy going", but as everyone, also I have my difficult moments. I believe that a good balance in the relation exists, we complement us. Roselyn inspires me to bbe a better person and also in my career. I believe that we have a good base in our marriage and we are ready for what the future bring us.
How difficult has been to fight with the cultural differences among you?
I was raised in the area of The Bridge, a community of Mexicans in Los Angeles, so the majority of my neighbors and companions of school were Latin Americans. They jokes that I had something of Latin American, in spite of the fact that I did not learn to speak Spanish. But the Puerto Rican culture went something completely new and different. On the Latin Americans I can say that, in general, they are very vehement, all they do it with passion.
What do you like about Puerto Rico?
I have to admit that the food fascinates me. "I love mofongo!". Yet I have not tested a dish that I didn't like and when I am in the Island my mother-in-law consents me.
Have you considered working together?
One must have a lot of care with that, because when the personal thing is exposed too much, at times the public cannot separate the relation of the action in the screen. It's a double-edged sword. We've talked about it but it would have to be the perfect project, and necessarily we would not act as couple. I believe that we would give more priority to produce together, that is something that interests us.
I have heard that already you began to work in a great production: that of being parents...
We do not know when will be, but finally is something that we want and I am sure that is going to be a stimulating chapter in our lives.Source: ElNuevoDia
